Birendra Singh Dhanoa was commissioned in June 1978 as a fighter pilot in the IAF, he was a student of National Indian Military College, National Defense Academy and Defense Services Staff College, Wellington. Air Marshal Dhanoa is a qualified flying instructor and he has set up several types of fighter aircraft during his prestigious career. Birendra Singh Dhanoa led the Fighter Squadron during the Kargil War and had several nightly missions’ flights in the hill areas itself. He has the honor of taking charge of several important operational appointments including the Station Commander of the Combat Base and the leader of the Indian Military Training Team abroad.
Birender Singh has also been posted as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Intelligence) and senior Air Staff Officer of two operational commissions at the Chief Instructor (Air) of Defense Services Staff College, Vallington, and Air Force Headquarters. Dhanoha was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South-Western Air Command prior to the appointment as Deputy Chief of the Air Force.
For the meritorious services, the President provided him with the War Service Madel (YSN), Air Force Medal (VN) in 1999 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2015. Air Marshal Dhanoa Air Marshal Ravikant Sharma was replaced by PWSM, AVSM, VM ADC, as Deputy Chief of Air Force, who retired on May 31, 2015 after 40 years of excellent service.
