The name  of  “Gopaldas neeraj’s”  will be remembered in Indian cinema as a lyricist who won the heart of the audience by composing songs composed of love, separation, nature and life.


Personal Life:


Gopaldas Saxena ‘Neeraj’ was born on 4 January 1925 in the United Provinces of British India, Agra and Awadh, now known as Uttar Pradesh, to Babu Brajkishore Saxena in the village of Purawali near Maheva in Etah district. When Gopaldas neeraj was 6 year old, his father had died. Gopaldas neeraj has been an intelligent student since childhood. He completed his early education from a school in Etah.


Career:


The economic condition of Gopaldas neeraj’s family was very poor so he had also done the job of typewriter. His childhood turned out to be in struggle. Neeraj ji passed his Higher School Examination from Eta in 1942 and passed the ‘Intermediate’ examination in 1949 and in 1942, after passing the examination of high school, he came to Delhi and join a typist in the supply department of the government. Along with the job, he did his BA in 1951 and in 1953, he completed his MA Hindi with first class.

In 1946, after working in Delhi he shifted to Kanpur for few days where he work as a clerks in the ‘D.A.V. College.’ After being a clerk in the college,he got married and also got the job of steno typist in a foreign company called Walkert Brothers.

Neeraj felt many ups and downs in his life and all aspects of life probably very closly. Perhaps this is the reason why his songs reflect the associated struggle of life. Neeraj’s songs rocked as soon as he reached puberty. Everyone started calling them with respect to the poet conference. After this, Neeraj’s songs had a big fanfare all over the country, but his family’s needs were not getting fulfilled.

It was difficult to run a family with income earned from the Poet Convention. Seeing the growing expenses of the family, Neeraj started working as a professor of the Hindi Department at Aligarh’s Dharma Samaj College. Meanwhile the poet continued to take part in the conference.


Mumbai journey:


Meanwhile, during a Kavi Sammelan, producer “R.K. Chandra” became happy when he appeared in Neeraj show and found him as a rising star of Indian cinema. R. Chandra urged Neeraj to write a song for his film ‘Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal‘, but Neeraj did not get this talk, and he turned down his offer, but later, due to some of the responsibilities of the house, He contacted Chandra again and agreed to write songs on their own terms.

In 1965, Neeraj came to Mumbai in search of a better life. Neeraj first got a chance to write a song for R. Chandra’s film ‘Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal‘. After few days, Neeraj feel strange about the glare of Mumbai film industry and they left Mumbai and went back to Aligarh.

Neeraj was unhappy with the economy of Aligarh’s Dharma Samaj College and once again he came back to Mumbai to make his mark in the film industry as a lyricist with a new passion. Neeraj faced a lot of difficulties after coming to Mumbai.

In this era, people from Punjab had dominance in the film industry. The story and lyrics of the film were largely dominated by the Urdu tongue. Neeraj worked tirelessly to make his mark in the film industry. Neeraj attracted the attention of the film industry by composing simple songs in simple words. His hard work soon paid off and he became successful as a lyricist in the film industry.

Raj Kapoor was heavily influenced by Neeraj’s poem ‘Highway Pedestrians‘. He offered Neeraj to write a song for his film ‘Mera Naam Joker‘ on the same lines and, agreeing to Raj Kapoor, Neeraj composed the song ‘A Bhai Jara Dekh Ke Chalo Age hi Nahi Piche Bhi‘.

Through the evergreen songs like ‘Aaj Madhosh Haya Jaaye Re Mera Mana’, ‘O Meri O Meri O Meri Sharmilee’, ‘Megha Chhai Aadhi raat Beran Ban Gai Nindiya’ from the film ‘Sharmilee‘ starring Shashi Kapoor and Rakhi released in 1971. As a songwriter, he touched the heights for which he had come to Mumbai. After this Neeraj did not look back.

He tilted the hearts of the people by writing more than one song and enriched the film Geetaganga by making them proud. In Neeraj’s career, his pairing with composer “SD Burman” was also well liked.

The song and music of these two Artist were first liked in the film ‘Prem Pujari‘ released in the year 1970. After this, Neeraj, SD Burman kept the audience captivated through his lyric music in many films. These films include superhit films like ‘Sarmilee‘, ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, ‘Chupa Rustom’.


Gopaldas neeraj Death:


Gopaldas neeraj, who made his mark in films with the literary world as a well-known poet and lyricist, was admitted to Delhi AIIMS in an ailing state. Where he died on 19 July 2018. Gopaldas neeraj, who gave the best of creations to the field of film industry and literature, went away by saying goodbye to us forever. But the creators never die, they are always alive in the literary world and in the hearts of people.


Gopaldas Neeraj awards and honors:


He was awarded the “Padma Shri” award by the Government of India in the year 1991.

Neeraj was also awarded the “Padma Bhushan” in 2007 by the Government of India.

He was also awarded the “Yash Bharti Samman” by the Uttar Pradesh government.

World Urdu Council Award

Gopaldas Neeraj, who has written many superhit songs in Hindi cinema, was also awarded the Filmfare Award 3 times.
