Introduction:


Vox Kokila Lata Mangeshkar is not only the most famous and precious singer in the world, but has played the magic of her melody not only in India but also in abroad. It would not be wrong to call melody queen Lata Mangeshkar a synonym for music, as she has set the standard in music with her melodious and mesmerising voice where hardly anyone can reach.

Lata Mangeshkar ji’s wonderful voice has being researched, American scientists have even said that there was never such a beautiful voice, nor possibly ever. Lata Ji, who has been called the great playback singer of many centuries, is also known as one of India’s most famous, best and respected playback singer; famous Indian playback singer and music composer.


Early Life:


Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in the Marathi family of Indore at the home of Pandit Deendayal Mangeshkar. His father was also a theater artist and a singer, that’s why they inherited music. Lata Mangeshkar was earlier named ‘Hema’ But 5 years after birth, their parents named her ‘Lata’. Lata is the eldest of all siblings. Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath are younger than her. A few days after her, birth the family shifted to Maharashtra.

Lata Mangeshkar had learned the first lesson of life from her father. At the age of five, Lata ji acted in a play of her father. When Lata ji went to school for the first time, she started teaching music to the other children of her class, when the teacher stopped her from doing so, she was very angry and left school from that day. In this way Lata ji went to school only once in her life. Some facts show that Lata ji left school because she had refused to bring her sister Asha with her.

Lata Mangeshkar from a very young age, was singing, her father and K.L. was influenced by Sehgal’s music. Lata Mangeshkar’s father encouraged her singing talent. When Lata Mangeshkar was only 13 years old then her father died.


After the father’s death:


After the death of her father, she had to leave for her studies. The family was taken care of by family friend Master Vinayak, who was the owner of Navayuga Chitrapat Movie. But the girl child also had to take many responsibilities from a young age. In 1942, Lata sang for the first time in the Marathi film “Kitty Haasal”. In the same year, Master Vinayak gave him a small role in the Marathi film “Pahili Mangla Daur”. His first song in Hindi was “Mata Ek Saput Ki Duniya Badal Du (1943)”.

Lata Mangeshkar family along with Master Vinayak came to Mumbai and Lata started teaching classical music. She was trained in music by a disciple of Amanat Ali Khan, Pandit Tulsi Prasad Sharma and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.


Lata ji’s career:


Lata ji started her career at the age of 13 and since then she has been giving her sweet voice to her Indian cinema. Lata sang her first song in 1942 for the Marathi film Kitty Hassal, “Nachu Ya Na Gade Khedu Saari, Mani Haus Bhari”, a song composed by Sadashivrao Navrekar, but while editing the film, this song was removed from the film.

After this, Master Vinayak, the owner of Navayuga Chitrapat Film Company and friend of Lata ji’s father, helped to manage his family and also helped them to make Lata Mangeshkar ji a singer and an actress. In 1942, Master Vinayak also gave Lata ji a small character in the Marathi film “Pahili Mangla-Gaur”, in which Lata also sang a song.Even though Lata started her career as a Marathi singer and actress, at that time nobody knew that this little girl would one day become the most famous and sweetest singer of Hindi cinema.

In fact, her first Hindi song was also from the 1943 Marathi film. The song was “Mata Ek Saput Ki Duniya Badal De Tu” which was a song from the Marathi film “Gajabhau”. After this, Lata ji moved to Mumbai with Master Vinayak Company in the year 1945. And from there she started learning Indian classical music from Ustad Amanat Ali Khan to enhance her musical talent.

At the same time, she was rejected by many music composers because of her thin and shrill voice, as her voice was completely different from the songs that were liked by that era. At the same time, Lata ji was also asked to sing for the famous singer of that period Nur Jahan.

Vinayak had unfortunately died in 1948 and another storm had struck in Lata’s life, thus her early years in the Hindi film world were full of struggle. However, after Vinayak ji’s death, Ghulam Haider ji had greatly influenced in Lata ji’s career. In 1948, Lata Mangeshkar was recognized by the song “Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhoda” from the film “Mazdoor”. At the same time, in the film ‘Mahal’, in year 1949, she sang her first super hit song “Aayega Ane wala”. After the song, Lata Ji had climbed into the eyes of several major music directors and playback singers in the music world, after which she got offers for several songs one after the other.

There is hardly any music director for whom Lata ji has not sung. Lata ji sang songs from Anil Vishwas to veteran music directors like Kalyanji Anandji in 1950s. Lata Mangeshkar sang songs in great films like “Two Eyes Twelve Hands”, “Mother India”, “Mughal-e-Azam” etc. With the magic of her voice in films like “Mahal”, “Barsaat”, “Ek Thi Ladki”, “Badi Behan” etc., these films added to the popularity of these films. Her reputation in the seven-decade-old Lata Ji’s Vox Yatra had become so strong that if any Music Director refused Lata Ji, it would have been difficult for him to survive with Film Industry.

Lata Ji was also a Siddhi whose language and pronunciation were ridiculed, and one day they dominated all the languages. People started learning to pronounce them.
