Bachchan was born on November 27, 1907 in a Kayastha family in Babupatti, a small village in Pratapgarh district adjacent to Allahabad. His father’s name was Pratap Narayan Srivastava and his mother was Saraswati Devi. These were called ‘Bachchan’ in childhood, which literally means ‘child’ or child. Later they were famous by this name. He first studied Urdu in the Kayastha School, which was then considered the first step for the degree of law.
Harivansh Rai did MA in English Literature from Allahabad University in 1938 and was a spokesman of Allahabad University till 1952.
