OnePlus will launch OnePlus Nord CE2 with a headphone jack.
OnePlus will be launching a new phone next week (February 17), and it will have a headphone socket – a feature that is becoming increasingly rare in smartphones these days.
According to the promotional video posted on YouTube, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 is “Still Jacked”, possibly a reference to the fact that it sports a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired headphones. There’s no need to invest in a pair of wireless earbuds just yet…
A 3.5mm headphone jack used to be part of smartphone furniture, but then Apple removed it from its iPhone range to make the handset thinner (and to increase sales of its wireless AirPods). Now Sony is the only household name that is making decent smartphones (like the Sony Xperia 1 III) that still feature the port.
In Nord CE 2 ‘CE’ stands for Core Edition. In the words of OnePlus, the phone “takes the best parts of the Nord 2 and packs it into an even more affordable package.” Think of it as the OnePlus equivalent of Samsung’s Galaxy S ‘FE’ phone – there, FE stands for the fan version. This is essentially a stripped-down version of the previous handset with some corners cut and a lower price tag.
But it is anything but basic. Along with the headphone port, you get 65W fast-charging and support for microSD expandable storage of up to 1TB. It appears to have three rear cameras (plus a flash), and a punch-hole in the top left corner of its screen.
5G also will come as standard.
Impressive, especially considering it should come in around the original Nord CE’s £300 price (around $400, AU$570).
