Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage suffered a concussion and is being evaluated at a local hospital for potential neck injuries after he was injured late in his team’s playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, head coach Todd Bowles said after the game.
Following a hit by by Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson, Gage remained on the field, having sustained a blow to his neck and jaw area. Gage could be seen moving his leg and Bowles said he was moving his fingers, as well.
The fifth-year wideout was immobilized and carted off the field before he was transported to the hospital. Players from the Buccaneers and Cowboys gathered around as Gage was attended to.
The injury occurred on a second-and-10 play with 2:55 remaining in the game when Tom Brady targeted Gage on an incompletion.
The 26-year-old Gage was an Atlanta Falcons sixth-round draft choice out of LSU in 2018. He played four years in Atlanta before signing with Tampa Bay ahead of the 2022 campaign. Gage had two catches for 10 yards in the Buccaneers’ 31-14 loss.
