Bipin Rawat was born on 16 March 1958 in Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand. Originally, General Rawat, who is related to village Sana, Block Dakkhal of Uttarakhand Pauri district, has a military background. His father was an officer in the army, his mother was from the family of Tehri’s famous lawyer Thakur Krishna Singh.
Bipin Rawat completed his education from St. Edward’s School of Shimla. He graduated from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in 1978 and was awarded the Sword of Honor here. In the US, he also secured a degree in defense from Wellington’s Defense Services Staff College.
After joining the army, the journey to the army chief:
In 1978, the army entered and they were included in the fifth battalion of the eleventh Gorkha Rifle.
First posting in 1979 in Mizoram. After joining the battalion, he played an important role in many war campaigns. He has served on various positions in General Operations Directorate, General Staff Officer Grade 2, Colonel Military Secretary, Deputy Military Secretary and Senior Instructor in Junior Command Wing.

Bipin Rawat also wrote a number of articles about security issues for the magazines which people liked well. He has been awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, War Seva Medal, Army Medal and Vishist Seva Medal. Working with the United Nations twice, the Force Commander Commendation Award was given twice.

He has got to hold an even bigger position and this is happening for the first time in Indian history. Bipin Rawat has been made the first CDS officer of the country i.e. chief of Defense Staff. No one has got this post before today. The task of the CDS is to coordinate between the Army, Air Force and Navy. Simply put, it will be among the key advisors to the Defense Minister and they will give instructions to the three forces, though their work is not to interfere in any military activity. It only serves to reconcile the three armies and is the Chief Advisor of the Defense Minister and the Home Minister.
Death of CDS Bipin Rawat:
On 8 December 2021, General Rawat died in the crash of an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, India. He was accompanied by his wife and members of his personal staff.
