Introduction:

Mamta Banerjee is the chief of the Indian state of West Bengal, the current Chief Minister and the Trinamool Congress. It is very popular among his supporters in the name of ‘Didi’ (Elder sister). Education and Earlier life of Mamta Banerjee:

The current Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee was born on 5th January, 1955 in a Bengali Brahmin family in Calcutta (now Kolkata). The lower middle class couple Promenaleshwar Banerjee and Gayatri Devi were their parents. Only when he was very young his father passed away. Since her school days, Mamta was associated with politics for a long time. He was made general secretary of the State Women’s Congress in the seventies. At this time he was studying in college.

Mamta Banerjee grew up in a lower middle-class family and when she was younger, only her father Promenaleshwar Banerjee had died. Mamta Banerjee’s mother Gayatri Devi was a teacher in a school. Mamta Banerjee wanted to remain unmarried for whole life.Mamta Banerjee received a respectable bachelor’s degree in history from Jogmaya Devi College and got a master’s degree in Islamic history from the University of Calcutta, as well as a degree in education from Shree Shikshayatan College and Jogesh Chandra Chaudhary Law College, obtained the degree of law from Kolkata. Of Mamta Banerjee has maintained an accessible lifestyle in her political life and she is mostly seen in ordinary traditional Bengali cotton sari and a cotton bag hangs over their shoulders and they are not interested in any other cosmetics or jewelry.

There was also a time when the state’s first woman Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee had to work on selling milk while struggling with poverty. This was the only way to help their widowed mother in the upbringing of her younger siblings. Mamta’s father was a freedom fighter and when she was too young, he had died. He later decided to undertake milk vendor to run his family. Those days of trouble made Mamta tough and she passed decades in West Bengal for fulfilling her dream of ousting the communists.

Political career:

In the 1970s, as a young woman of the college, Mamta Banerjee had joined the Congress party in West Bengal and she worked on several posts of the party and other local political organizations. Mamata Banerjee made rapid progress on the path of becoming the Secretary General of the State Mahila Congress from 1976 to the year 1980. In the General Elections of 1984, Mamta Banerjee became India’s youngest MP in West Bengal and also worked as the General Secretary of All India Youth Congress.

In 1989, Ms. Banerjee had lost her seat due to anti-Congress wave, but in the General Elections of 1991, Mamata Banerjee returned again and Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and Women and Child Development Department Became the Union Minister of State Mamta retained her seat in the year 1996, year 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2009 general elections. By separating from the Congress party, Mamata Banerjee established the All India Trinamool Congress Party in West Bengal in 1997. Trinamool Congress immediately became the primary opposition party of the state. In the year 1999, Mamta Banerjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and was entrusted with the charge of Railway Minister.

In the year 2000, Mamta Banerjee presented her first Railway Budget to fulfill many promises of her home state, West Bengal, in which four express trains connecting a new bi-weekly train and various parts of West Bengal were introduced. Mamata Banerjee also focused her attention on the development of tourism and released two extra engines related to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited in the Darjeeling-Himalayan section. Overall, Mamta Banerjee started 19 new trains during that year.

After Tehelka was exposed in 2001, Mamata Banerjee had left the NDA cabinet and joined the Congress party in the elections in 2001 in West Bengal. In January 2004, Mamta Banerjee returned to the NDA cabinet again and took over as the minister of coal and mines till the general election of May 20, 2004. In October 2005, Mamta Banerjee protested against the acquisition of land of local farmers and violence against the people of West Bengal in the name of industrial development policy of Buddhadeb Bhattacharya Government. In 2005, Mamata Banerjee had to face the setbacks because her party had lost the power of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and in 2006 the Trinamool Congress party lost due to the loss of its many members in West Bengal’s assembly elections.

In the 2009 parliamentary elections, Trinamool Congress won 19 seats in the state. For the second time, even after becoming the railway minister, Mamta’s focus was on elections in Bengal and Bengal. He left his job as Railway Minister and campaigned for his party in Bengal. As a minister, his tenure has been known for populist programs and he did not take any steps to improve the poor financial health of the railways. After leaving his post, Trinamool’s Dinesh Trivedi was made Railway Minister, but he had to lose his chair due to Mamta’s pressure. His fault was only that he started trying to improve the railway ministry.

Apart from this, there have been many such controversial incidents, due to which Mamta Banerjee’s image became a fad, eccentric and self-centered politician, who, despite its mistakes, does not consider it appropriate to follow the democratic values. It is another matter, however, that in the opposition, they used to bother the Left leaders for these things.

In the elections of 2010 in West Bengal’s municipality, Trinamool Congress won from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation with 62 seats. On May 20, 2011, Mamata Banerjee won the full majority and took oath as Chief Minister of West Bengal and ended the 34-year rule of the Communist Party of India.

One of his initial decisions as Chief Minister, was the decision to return 400 acres of land to the farmers caught in the land acquisition dispute. The credit for solving the long-running “Gorkhaland issue” is also given to them. Mamta Banerjee proposed to reform education and health sectors and law and look at the situation of enforcement in West Bengal and making people aware about the history and culture of the state.Mamta Banerjee had launched a Facebook page to get public support for APJ Abdul Kalam, which was her party’s choice for the forthcoming presidential election to be held at that time.

Mamata Banerjee was elected as Chief Minister of West Bengal for the second time in state assembly elections 2016. Mamata Banerjee’s party won 211 out of a total of 293 seats.
