Introduction:

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was passed away on Sunday evening (17 March 2019). He was chief minister four times. President Ramnath Govind gave a tweet from his twitter handles and informed about his demise. He was quite popular with his simple nature and simplicity of life, you can imagine his simplicity in such a way that while used the scooter and public transport to go to his office while staying in the Chief Minister’s office.

Earlier Life and Education:

Manohar Parrikar was born in Mogusa village of Goa in 1955 and his father was named Gopalakrishna Parrikar and mother’s name was Radhabai. He married Medha Parrikar in 1981 and had two boys with this marriage. Whose names are Abhijit and Utpal. Both of these sons are away from politics and one of their sons has a degree in electrical engineering and the other son works as a local businessman.

Manohar Parrikar completed his early education at Loyola High School, Madgaon. After completing his secondary education in Marathi, he graduated in the Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) in 1978. It is known that he was the first Indian MLA to take his education from IIT. In 2001, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay awarded him the prestigious Alumni Award.

Manohar Parrikar’s political career:

Manohar Parrikar joined RSS at an early age and was appointed to the post of chief teacher in the last days of his school. After graduating from IIT, he continued to work for RSS in Mapusa and became a unionist at the age of 26 only. Parrikar was an active member of RSS from North Goa’s North Unit, who played a key role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. From RSS, he joined the BJP party so that he could fight with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. Elected MLA from Parrikar Goa in 1994. From June 1999 to November 1999, he remained the leader of the opposition. In 2000, the Parrikar came first in the state assembly elections in Goa, but his tenure lasted till 27 February 2002. From June 5, 2002, he was elected again and became Chief Minister for the second time.

On January 29, 2005, after resigning the BJP’s four MLAs, his government became a minority government, as Pratap Singh Rane of Congress became Chief Minister of Goa. In the 2007 assembly elections, BJP was defeated, with the help of allies in 2012, once again BJP came to power and became chief minister. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP came on both seats in Goa. In 2014, after leaving the Chief Minister of Goa, he was called in the Modi Government and the Parrikar was appointed Defense Minister. There was a lot of appreciation for the Parrikar for his sharp movements.

On March 14, 2017, Parrikar (Manohar Parrikar) was once again made the Chief Minister of Goa when no party had got a majority in Goa. In Goa, the Aam Aadmi Party agreed to join the BJP only after becoming the Chief Minister of Parrikar, therefore the Parrikar had to leave the post of Defense Minister from the Cabinet. Medha Parrikar, wife of Manohar Parrikar, died due to cancer in 2001.

Manohar Parrikar as a Defense Minister in 2014:

After BJP came to power in 2014, he was made Defense Minister of the country and he had worked on this post till 2017. After resigning from this post in 2017, he had gone back to Goa and after visiting here, he again took charge of the chief minister of this state.

 Suffered from Cancer:

For six years, they were sick and they suffered from pancreatic cancer. Due to this disease, they had to go to the US and for a long time they were undergoing treatment. When he came back from the US, he started to take responsibility for his CM again. Even after being very ill, they used to go to their office.

Manohar Parrikar dies:

Pancreatic illness was undergoing treatment in a US hospital in March-June 2018, after which he returned to India and in September of that year, he was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi for treatment.

On October 27, 2018, the Government of Goa announced that CM Manohar Parrikar had pancreatic cancer. On March 17, 2019, he died due to advanced pancreatic cancer at his residence in Panaji. He was 63 years old.
